Discover Action Words That Show What You Do Every Day!

You will discover action words that show what people and animals do. These special words help you describe movements and activities you see every day.

Introduction

You use action words every day when you talk about what you do! Action words are special words that tell us what people, animals, and things do. When you learn about common word types, action words are some of the most important ones you will discover.

Action words help you describe all the fun things you can do. You can jump, run, swim, and play. Animals do action words too - birds fly, bees buzz, and elephants trumpet!

What Are Action Words?

Action words show movement or things you can do with your body. These words tell us what is happening. When you see the word "jump," you know someone is moving up and down. When you read "swim," you know someone is moving in water.

You can find action words everywhere in your day. You wake up, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, and walk to school. All of these are action words that show what you do!

Finding Action Words in Stories

When you read stories, you will see many action words. Look for words that show what characters do. If a story says "The cat runs fast," the word "runs" is the action word. It tells you what the cat is doing.

You can practice finding action words by asking yourself: "What is someone doing?" The answer will usually be an action word. This skill helps you understand complete sentences better.
