PEI Grade 4 English Curriculum Overview
Prince Edward Island Grade 4 English covers three core areas: oral communication, reading and viewing, and critical response to texts. Students at this level are expected to share ideas confidently, engage with a wide range of texts, and begin thinking critically about what they read and hear.
Oral Language Skills in Grade 4
Grade 4 students in PEI develop their ability to discuss ideas, ask and respond to questions, and participate in group conversations. Key skills include:
- Sharing thoughts and experiences and considering the perspectives of peers
- Asking questions in an interview format and responding to clarify information
- Explaining personal opinions clearly and responding respectfully to others
- Using appropriate word choice, tone of voice, and facial expressions when speaking

Reading and Viewing Strategies
