Ontario Kindergarten Math: What Your Child Will Learn

Kindergarten is where the math journey begins. Ontario Kindergarten math covers a wide range of foundational skills — from counting and number recognition to shapes, patterns, and early data skills. Measurement

Students select an attribute to measure, choose a non-standard unit, and compare two or more objects. They investigate different strategies and materials for measuring, building an intuitive sense of length, mass, and capacity before formal units are introduced in later grades.

Geometry and Spatial Sense

Ontario Kindergarten students explore two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional figures by sorting, comparing, and building with them. They learn to describe spatial relationships, explore reflective symmetry, and investigate how 2D shapes and 3D figures relate to one another in objects they build.

Kindergarten students begin collecting data by asking questions, organizing observations, and representing results in graphs. They interpret graphs, draw conclusions, and use informal language to describe probability in familiar everyday situations. These skills form the foundation for later statistics and data literacy.
