Split a group of up to 10 objects into two smaller parts using counters or pictures.
Recognize that one whole number, such as \( 7 \), can break apart into several different pairs, like \( 3 + 4 \) or \( 2 + 5 \).
Use a part-part-whole picture to see how the two separated groups relate back to the original total.
