Master Communication Skills You Can Use Anywhere
You will practice using your listening and speaking skills to communicate better in different places like school, home, and with friends.
Introduction
You will learn how to use your listening and speaking skills in many different places and situations. When you can transfer your communication skills from one place to another, you become a better listener and speaker everywhere you go. This means using the same good listening habits at school, at home, and when playing with friends.
Using Your Communication Skills Everywhere
You already know how to listen and speak, but now you will practice using these skills in different situations. When your teacher gives directions in class, you can use the same careful listening skills when your parents give you instructions at home. This is called transferring your skills from one place to another.
Good communication skills help you succeed in many different activities. You can use clear speaking when asking the librarian for help finding books, when talking to new friends on the playground, or when participating in Speaking Communication Skills Turn Taking during class discussions.
Following Directions Carefully
One of the most important communication skills you will practice is following directions. When you listen carefully to what someone says and do exactly what they ask, you are following directions well. This skill works the same way whether you are in art class, music class, or helping at home.
Sometimes you might miss part of the directions or not understand what someone said. When this happens, you can ask them to repeat the instructions or explain again. This shows you are a good listener who wants to understand correctly, just like in Listening Strategies For Comprehension.
Speaking Clearly and Asking Questions
You will also practice speaking clearly so others can understand you easily. When you need help or have a question, using clear words helps others know exactly what you need. This is especially important when you are in new situations or talking to people you don't know very well.
Asking good questions is another skill you can use everywhere. Whether you are confused about a game on the playground or need help with an assignment, asking clear questions helps you get the right information. This connects to Listen Attentively And Ask Questions skills you are developing.
