Minnesota Kindergarten Science Standards
Minnesota Kindergarten science follows the Minnesota Academic Standards for Science. At this level, students begin exploring the world around them through observation and inquiry. Topics include properties of objects and materials, living and nonliving things, weather and seasonal change, and the basic needs of plants and animals.
What Kindergarten Scientists Learn
In Kindergarten, students develop foundational science skills by asking questions, making observations, and describing what they notice. Key areas of study include:
- Physical science: properties of materials such as color, size, shape, and texture
- Life science: basic needs of plants and animals, and how living things grow and change
- Earth science: weather patterns, seasons, and features of the local environment
- Science practices: observing, comparing, sorting, and communicating findings
How StudyPug Supports Minnesota Kindergarten Science
StudyPug provides lessons and practice problems for every Kindergarten science topic covered in Minnesota schools. Each lesson breaks concepts into small, manageable steps so young learners can follow along at their own pace. Parents and students can revisit any topic whenever homework help or extra practice is needed.
Preparing for Future Minnesota Science Assessments
While Minnesota does not administer a statewide science assessment at Kindergarten, the concepts learned at this grade level lay the groundwork for the MCA Science test beginning in Grade 5. Building strong observation and inquiry skills in Kindergarten helps students succeed in science throughout elementary school.
