Introduction

You can be a good citizen by helping others every day! When you help people around you, you make your school and community a better place. You will learn many ways to care for others and show kindness.

Ways You Can Help Others

You can help your friends in many ways. When someone falls down, you can help them get up. If a friend drops their crayons, you can help pick them up.

You can share things with others too. If someone is cold and you have extra mittens, you can share them. When a classmate forgets their lunch, you can share your food.

Sometimes you need to tell a grown-up when someone needs help. If you find a lost puppy, tell an adult. If you see broken branches on the playground, tell your teacher.

Being a Good Friend and Helper

Good friends help each other feel better. When someone is crying, you can listen to them. You can sit with someone who is alone. You can help look for lost toys.

You can help clean up messes too. If someone spills their lunch, you can help clean it up. After storms, you can help pick up sticks and leaves in your yard.

Good Citizen: A person who helps others and cares about their community. You are a good citizen when you help your friends and neighbors.

Helping: Doing something nice for someone who needs it. You help when you pick up dropped toys or share your snacks.

Community: The place where you live, learn, and play with other people. Your school, neighborhood, and town are your community.

Sharing: Giving some of what you have to others. You share when you let someone use your crayons or eat part of your lunch.

Caring: Showing that you worry about others and want them to be happy. You show caring when you help someone who is hurt or sad.

How You Can Practice Helping

You can practice helping others every day at school and home. Look for friends who need help with their work or who dropped something. Share your toys and snacks with others.

When you see someone who is sad or hurt, you can ask if they need help. Always tell a grown-up if someone needs help that you cannot give.
