Master Letter Formation and Create Your First Letter Strings
You will learn to form letters correctly and create basic letter strings as your first steps in writing.
Introduction
You are ready to learn how to write letters! Letter Formation and Scribbling helped you get started, and now you will learn to make letters that look just right. When you write letters correctly, you can make words that others can read easily.
How to Form Letters
You will learn to make letters using different shapes. Some letters use straight lines, like the letter I. Other letters use curved lines, like the letter O. You start each letter at the right place and move your pencil in the right direction.
Letters have different sizes too. Some letters are tall, like the letter B. Other letters sit on the line, like the letter A. When you practice making letters, you learn where each letter belongs.
Uppercase and Lowercase Letters
You will learn about two types of letters. Big letters are called uppercase letters, like A, B, C. Small letters are called lowercase letters, like a, b, c. Each uppercase letter has a matching lowercase letter.
You use uppercase letters at the beginning of sentences and for names. You use lowercase letters for most other words. Learning both types helps you write correctly.
Making Letter Strings
You can put letters together to make letter strings. Letter strings are groups of letters that work together. When you connect letters, you start making words like "cat" or "dog."
You will practice putting letters in the right order. The alphabet helps you remember the correct order of letters. This skill prepares you for writing simple messages.
