You will learn how to listen carefully to others. Good listening helps you learn new things and show respect.
What Are Listening Skills?
Listening means paying careful attention to sounds and words you hear. When you listen, you use your ears to hear what someone says. Good listening helps you learn new things every day!
You use listening skills all the time. You listen to your teacher, your friends, and your family. Learning to listen well is one of the best things you can do. It connects to Expressing Ideas because when you listen, you understand what others share.
How Your Body Shows You Are Listening
Good listeners use their whole body. You sit up straight and face the speaker. You keep your hands still and calm in your lap.
You look gently at the person speaking. This is called eye contact. Eye contact shows the speaker you care about what they say. You keep your mouth quiet so everyone can hear.
When your body is calm and still, you are ready to listen. This is important during circle time in your classroom. It also helps when you participate in groups.
Why Listening Matters

When someone truly listens to you, you feel valued and important. You can make your friends feel that way too! Listening is connected to Respect for Others because it shows you care.
You use listening skills in many places. At school, at the library, and in your community, good listening helps you everywhere you go.
Good Listening Behaviours
Here are things good listeners do. You stop what you are doing and pay attention. You look at the speaker and keep your hands still.
You wait for the speaker to finish before you talk. You never interrupt someone while they are speaking. After listening, you can ask a question or repeat back what you heard.
If you did not hear something, you raise your hand and ask politely. This connects to Asking Questions, which helps you understand even more.
